Looking for tips to access the Louisiana Unemployment Insurance Benefits?

In this article, we will make Unemployment Insurance Benefits easy to understand with Louisiana Unemployment phone numbers and other contact information.

We understand.

The experience of unemployment is often fraught with anxiety and feelings of worthlessness. Not being able to provide for oneself and one’s family can be very difficult, and the stress of the situation can be overwhelming.

Those who are unemployed may feel like they are a burden to their loved ones, and they may feel like they are not good enough or valuable enough. It is important to remember that you are not alone in this experience, and there are people who care about you and want to help.

You are valuable, even if you are not working at the moment. There are many resources available to you, so please do not hesitate to reach out for help.

Why did we create the Louisiana Unemployment Insurance Benefits Guide?

Government websites can be difficult to navigate for a lot of people. They may be confusing or hard to use, and they may not have all the information people need. This can be frustrating and overwhelming, especially for people who are already struggling.

Having said that, please use our guide as support but NOT the official guide. You will NEED to contact the official unemployment government staff and fight for your own benefits. You can do this.

Who’s in charge of Louisiana Unemployment Insurance Benefits?

Department of Labor – Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) is in charge of administering the state’s unemployment insurance program.

How To Qualify for Louisiana Unemployment Benefits

Claimants must fulfill the following conditions to be eligible for unemployment benefits in Louisiana:

  • Working hours have been drastically decreased or you are no longer working due to no fault of your own.
  • A sufficient amount of money was made during the base period to justify a review. Before you make your initial claim, Louisiana considers the first four of the last five completed calendar quarters to be your base period.
  • Physically fit and ready to work
  • Actively looking for a job — the only exception is if you’ve been laid off and given a target return-to-work date.

For further information, check the Benefit Rights Information (PDF).

How Much Unemployment Benefits Will I Get in Louisiana?

  • Base Period: First 4 of the last 5 completed quarters
  • Alt Base Period: N/A
  • Duration of Benefits: 26 weeks
  • Weekly Payment: Min $10 to Max $247
  • Maximum Benefits Amount (1 year): $5,746-$7,384

How Do I Apply for Louisiana Unemployment Benefits?

You can submit your new unemployment claim online through the Louisiana Workforce Commission, which is the quickest and easiest way to do so. To create an account, you’ll need a valid email address, which you’ll use to monitor the progress of your claim and submit your weekly certification for unemployment benefits.

You will get a list of open opportunities in your region after filing your unemployment claim, which may match your talents and experience.

How do I Manage My Louisiana Unemployment Benefits

You must certify that you are still eligible for unemployment compensation payments each week that you request a payment. You may do so by logging in to the same account you used to file your first claim. Simply sign in and go to the Unemployment Services menu and pick Weekly Claim Certification.

You’ll be asked a series of questions concerning your job search activity during the previous week, as well as any wages received and/or any employment, offers you turned down.

How Do I Appeal a Louisiana Unemployment Decision?

Any finding pertaining to your claim can be appealed by both you and your employer. You must do so within 15 days of receiving your determination notification in the mail. Your request for an administrative law judge hearing may entitle you to a hearing before a judge who will consider your claim and make a fresh judgment.

As explained below, you have three alternatives for submitting an appeal:

  • Online: www.LAWORKS.net
  • Appeals Unit, Louisiana Workforce Commission, P.O. Box 94094, Baton Rouge, LA 70804-9094
  • 225-342-4223 (fax)

If you’re mailing your letter, it must be postmarked within 15 days after the date of your determination notification and signed by the person who filed the appeal. It’s also a good idea to send a complete copy of the original determination with your request if you’re filing it via mail.

How Do I Report a Louisiana Unemployment Fraud?

The state of Louisiana urgently urges you to assist in the fight against unemployment insurance fraud across the state. Unemployment fraud is a waste of money for the government, and it may prevent unemployment benefits from reaching people who need them the most.

If you have cause to believe someone is stealing unemployment benefits, you can file a report with the state of Louisiana’s online system. You may also report fraud over the phone by calling 800-201-3362.

What if I quit?

In general, you are not eligible if you leave your work freely.

If you quit for “good cause,” though, you may be able to collect. The state unemployment office determines what constitutes good reason, and you can make your case for getting benefits.

You should be entitled to a hearing if your claim is denied so that you can explain your claim. You should contact your local office because regulations and conditions differ from state to state.

Final Thoughts

We hope the above info has been helpful to you.

We do not make any financial advice but below are some of our thoughts that could help you stand on your feet sooner than later.

  • Don’t feel shame about needing help, but also don’t feel entitled.
  • Don’t beat yourself up – things happen. The sooner you accept it and move on, the better.
  • Don’t burn the bridge. Work with your employer to help yourself.
    • 1) Check if you are entitled to severance pay, vacation or sick pay,
    • 2) Ask about extending health insurance benefits,
    • 3) Ask about outplacement resources,
    • 4) Request a reference letter from your employer
  • Review your financial positions, obligations.
  • Make a weekly or monthly budget. Buy what you need, so you don’t have to sell what you need.
  • Watch out for credit card loans – they will eat you alive.
  • Make an action plan with at least 3 scenarios from best to worst and examine your options.
