Senator Tom Cotton is an American politician and an attorney. He has served in the U.S. Senate as a Junior Senator since 2015. He was born on May 13, 1997. His father worked in the Arkansas Department of Health as a district supervisor. 

Tom grew up on his family’s cattle farm. He went to Dardanelle High School and he played on the local basketball teams there. 

Tom graduated from high school in 1995 and afterward, he went to Harvard. He majored in government and became a member of the editorial board of The Harvard Crimson. After only three years of study, Tom graduated with an A.B. magna cum laude in 1998. 

Tom worked as a federal clerk for a year after graduating from Harvard. He also worked as an associate in a law firm in Washington, D.C. After that, he was enlisted in the army in 2005. He served in the army as an infantry officer and he rose to the rank of Captain. He was discharged from the Army in 2009.

After that, he entered the Army Reserve from which he was discharged in 2013.

Tom Cotton spent one year working as a law clerk after graduating from Harvard Law School. He worked for judge Jerry Edvin of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Then he started his work as an associate at Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher in Washington, D.C. 

He was enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2005. He served in the Army for 4 years and he was discharged in 2009.

Cotton ran for Congress in 2011 after the retirement of Mike Ross. He won the Republican nomination in 2012 by defeating Beth Ann Rankin and John David Cowart.

Most of Cotton’s achievements seem to come from his military services, e.g., the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Air Assault Badge.

An American news and opinion website, Salon reported in 2021 that Cotton  falsely claimed in his campaign ads and videos from 2011 and 2014 that he served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Tom dismissed these allegations by telling everyone that he graduated from Ranger School and wore a Ranger tab. 

He also said that it was not about his military record, only about his politics. Tom Cotton received some criticism from Americans after this. 

In 2011, Max Brantley criticized an article Tom wrote, where he questioned the internet’s value as a teaching tool in the classroom. Tom said that the internet had matured since he wrote that article.

Tom Cotton is also characterized as a Trump loyalist, who tried to overturn the 2020 United States Presidential elections.
