Senator Edward John Markey is an American Lawyer and Politician. He has been a junior U.S. Senator from Massachusetts under the Democrats since 2013. He served as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1973 to 1976. He was also a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He represented Massachusetts 7th District from 1976 to 2013.
Markey was born in Malden, Massachusetts, on July 11, 1946. Markey was financially incapable of paying his college tuition. Yet, he worked as an ice cream truck driver and salesperson in Lexington. He then paid his tuition from the proceedings.
Senator Ed Markey Career joined the U.S. Army Reserve after graduating from Boston College in 1968 till 1973.
He furthered and received a J.D. at Boston College Law School in 1972. He subsequently started practicing as a lawyer.

Markey started his political career as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1973. He represented the 16th and 26rh Middlesex districts till 1976.
It took no time before Markey became a famous Democrat in the state. In 1976, Markey entered a special election for a seat at the U.S. House of Reps. The special election was conducted after Congressman Tobert Macdonald died in office.

He was one of the Senators that cosponsored a resolution on reports made on climatic change. Besides, he authored the Green New Deal to address climatic change. He also cosponsored the Climate Security Act in 2019.
Markey also requested FEMA to enact a Disaster Housing Assistance Program for evacuees of natural disasters.
His administration also fostered affordable and quality healthcare. He was one of the senators that requested former President Trump to reduce the cost of prescription drugs.
He co-sponsored the Medicare For All Act, which proposed the creation of federal health insurance programs. He also cosponsored the Territories Health Equity Act in 2019.
In addition to promoting national security and reducing gun violence through gun control acts, Markey also worked on internet security. He was part of the Senators that wrote to the Facebook CEO about the company’s privacy intrusion.

A commercial web video that exposed Markey for a serious scandal uncovered by the National Republican Committee in 2013. The video attacked the then Senate-aspirant for bouncing more than 91 checks at a congressional bank in 1991.
He was also one of more than 300 lawmakers who withdrew overdrafts repeatedly at the congressional bank. They also had the overdrafts covered without any penalty.
