Senator Charles Ellis Schumer is an American politician. He is a senior U.S. Senator from New York under the Democrats since 1999. He has been the Senate Majority leader since January 2021. He is also the dean of the congressional delegation in New York.
Schumer was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1975 to 1980. He was later elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. There, he represented the 16th, 10th, and 9th congressional districts from 1981 to 1998.
Schumer was born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 23rd, 1950. Born to a Jewish family, Schumer’s ancestors originated from modern-day Ukraine. He enrolled in many Brooklyn schools but graduated as a valedictorian of the James Madison High School.
At college, he originally majored in Chemistry at Harvard College. But he finished with a B.A. degree in Political Science in 1971. He then obtained a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 197
