
Mike Shumway Lee is an American politician and Lawyer.
He is serving as the Senior U.S. Senator from Utah. He has been a part of the Senate since 2011 as a Republican. Sen. Lee was born in Arizona on June 4th, 1971. He went to Timpview High School. He graduated from there in 1989. He attended Brigham Young University after graduating.
He worked as president of the Brigham Young University Student Service Association (BYUSA). His father was then president of BYU. He graduated in 1994 with a B.A. degree in political science. He then attended J. Reuben Clark Law School. He was a member of BYU Law Review.
He graduated in 1997 with a Juris Doctor.

Sen. Lee started his career after graduating from law school. He started with a clerkship for Judge Dee Benson. He worked for him for 2 years and went to work for Judge Samuel Alito. He entered private practice after that.
Sen. Lee decided to run for Senate in 2012. His campaign was focused on the size of the federal government. He won the Republican nomination against Tim Bridgewater. He also won the general elections against Sam Granto and Scott Bradley.
Sen. Lee ran for re-election in 2016. He was endorsed by the Club of Growth, Senate Conservatives Fund, and the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

Mike has a track record of pushing through conservative principles. He worked for the reopening of 77 oil and gas leases in the Obama administration. He has helped Utah to assert domain rights against the federal government.

Sen. Lee sent a series of tweets in 2020 saying that the U.S. is no democracy which started a controversy around him. People criticized him for his tweets. Later on, it was argued that Lee fundamentally misunderstood the terms “democracy” and “republic”.
