Senator Daniel Scott Sullivan (R) is an American attorney and politician. He has been serving as a junior U.S. Senator from Alaska under the Republican since 2015. He was an Alaskan state commissioner.

Sullivan was born in Fairview Park, November 13, 1964. He attended the Culver Military Academy. After graduating from the Academy in 1983, he furthered at Harvard University. There, he received a B.A. degree in Economics in 1987. 

He also earned a J.D. and a Master’s degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University in 1993. In the same year, he joined the US Marine Corps and served in the Infantry and Reconnaissance unit. He left active duty in 1997 and was recalled to active duty three times. 

He subsequently moved to Alaska and worked as a clerk for the Ninth Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals till 1998. He also worked in the Alaska State Supreme Court from 1998 till 1999. 

Senator Dan Sullivan later went into private law practice after working in the Supreme Court. He joined the Perkins Cole law firm in 2000, specializing in commercial and corporate law. He also joined the Alaska bar the same year.

In 2002, Senator Dan Sullivan moved to Washington DC. He held different posts. He later worked as the National Security Advisor for President Bush. He was also appointed as the NEC chairman. 

In 2006, Sullivan was appointed U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy, and Business Affairs. He served till 2009.

Sullivan started his political career after serving under President Bush. 

He left federal service after President Obama’s election. He returned to Alaska and served as the Attorney General from 2009 to 2010. He was also appointed as the Commissioner of Natural resources in 2010. He served till 2013 when he resigned to run for a seat at the U.S. Senate.

In 2013, Sullivan announced his candidacy for a seat at the U.S. Senate. He was looking to unseat Democratic incumbent Mark Begich in 2014. Fortunately, Club for Growth endorsed him. He won the Republican primary and defeated Begich in 2014. He was re-elected in 2020.

Sen. Sullivan has also worked to improve financial status and personal safety for his constituency. 

In his bid to improve personal safety, he introduced a statewide strategy, the Choose Respect campaign. It aimed to combat the high rate of domestic violence and sexual assaults in Alaska.

Sullivan’s administration also focused on environmental, natural, and infrastructural development. His administration oversaw all energy sectors and some natural resources of the state. 

Sullivan also worked to improve the state’s economy tremendously. In this sector, he worked to increase the number of jobs. He also reformed the state’s regulatory system.

Apart from all these, Sullivan has worked to improve the state’s security. He has been instrumental in foreign, trade, and defense policies. He also focused on fighting terrorism.

Senator Dan Sullivan Criticisms

Before his reelection, Senator Sullivan faced criticism about his relationship with a controversial mining project. The scandal centers around his relationship with people associated with the Pebble Mine project. 

The large-scale mining project was rejected due to its threat to the Bristol Bay watershed. The Bristol Bay watershed is the world’s largest sockeye salmon fishery.

Sullivan allegedly received campaign donations from executives and lobbyists associated with the projects. Despite being known for serving his people, Sullivan was alleged to vote for policies benefiting only his family. 

Sullivan was criticized for turning a blind eye as an Attorney General about a series of reports against the National Guard. The scandalous allegations include sexual assault, corruption, and financial misconduct. Yet, he denied knowing anything about the allegations.

Senator Sullivan was part of the Senators that signed a controversial letter to the Iranian government. The letter warned Iran against signing any nuclear deal with the U.S. government. But, the action got backlashes from President Obama and Congress.

Senator Sullivan is known as a result-oriented politician whose primary focus is to protect his state and his people. He has focused on introducing and implementing effective Acts and reforms to improve the quality of life.

But, Sullivan got under fire for his negligence about the National Guard scandals. He was also part of the Senators who signed a controversial letter to the Iranian government.

  1. Schumer needs to be expelled for inciting the attempt on justice lKavanaugh’s life. If they can charge Trump for that, Schumer did it without a doubt!!!!
