Dear Senator Murphy,,
What specifically are you doing to stop the flood of illegal immigrants entering our country from the southern border?
PLEASE READ THIS PLEA FOR OUR LIVES AND THOSE OF FUTURE GENERATIONS.
Second Amendment of the Constitution:
A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Senators, I know this is a bipartisan committee and there will be some of you who lean toward the NRA’s ideals. I understand that, but I do want to emphasize that those who demand the rights to guns base their argument on the Second Amendment (above). I would like to point out that it does indeed say, “the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”. But don’t cherry-pick your whole belief system on only a SEGMENT of the bill! It starts with “A well-regulated militia”, and that means it CAN be regulated –the right to regulate also cannot be infringed. Constitutionally!
I see that 90% of Americans want at least background checks before purchasing firearms. That means at least some in your voting block wants some protection from mass shootings. You would do well to listen to your constituency before blocking any gun management legislation. I would like to think the NRA would also like to keep weapons away from those who would do us harm, it looks bad for all gun owners.
There are some weapons the civilians cannot own; tanks, bazookas, flame throwers, nuclear bombs. So the line has been drawn, we just want to move the line. There is NO reason for the citizenry to have firearms which are military grade. Bump stocks which turn them into machine guns, and large capacity magazines are also not necessary. These need to be regulated for the safety of the people.
You have a job to protect us. Remember that you did swear an oath:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”
Domestic terrorism falls into the category of domestic enemies.
I implore you to do your sworn job and protect us from the few who can acquire weapons of mass destruction, and use them with deadly results!
