John Cornyn is an American attorney and politician.

He has been serving as a senior United States Senator for the state of Texas since 2002. He was born in Huston. His father was a colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He studied in an American School in Japan in 1968 when his family moved there. He graduated in 1969. 

Cornyn served as a district judge in San Antonio for six years before being elected as a Republican representative, United States in 1990 to the Texas Supreme Court, on which he served for seven years.

 He is a member of the Republican party. In 1998, Cornyn ran for Texas attorney general. Party. He won and became the Texas Attorney General, the first of thus far only two Republicans to have held the position.

He went to Trinity University in Texas, the United States where he majored in journalism. He graduated in 1973. He got a Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1977. He attended the University of Virginia School of Law in 1995. He got an LL.M. degree from the University. 

Sen. Cornyn attended a two-week seminar in 1998 at Oxford University.

In 2005, Cornyn’s name was mentioned among possibilities to replace Supreme Court justices, Sandra Day O’Connor or William Rehnquist.
