Senator James Elroy Risch is an American lawyer and politician. He has been serving as a junior Republican U.S. Senator from Iowa since 2009. He was a lieutenant governor of Idaho from 2003 to 2006.
He served as lieutenant governor again from 2007 to 2009 after serving as the Governor of Idaho from 2006 to 2007. Senator Risch serves as ranking member of the Foreign Relations Committee for the 117th Congress. Before delving into politics, Risch was a prosecuting attorney. He also taught criminal law at Boise State University.
Risch was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on May 3, 1943. Senator Jim Risch attended the University of Wisconsin before he was transferred to the University of Idaho. He earned his B.A. in forestry in 1965. He served in the College of Law Advisory Committee before receiving a J.D. at the University of Idaho College of Lawn 1968.
