Timothy Micheal Kaine is an American politician and lawyer serving as the junior United States senator from Virginia since 2013. 

A member of the Democratic Party, he served as the 38th lieutenant governor of Virginia from 2002 to 2006 and 70th governor of Virginia from 2006 to 2010. 

Kaine was announced Democratic nominee for vice president of the United States in the 2016 election by former United States Secretary Hillary Clinton.

Kaine was the first Virginian since Woodrow Wilson to be on a major-party ticket. Kaine was also nominated for vice president as senator United States.

He was born on February 26th, 1958 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He grew up in Overland Park, Kansas. 

He went to Rockhurst High School where he joined the debate team and was elected student body president. He went to the University of Missouri and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics.

Senator Tim Kaine graduated Omicron Delta Kappa and summa cum laude from the University of Missouri. He decided to enter Harvard Law School in 1979. 

He worked in Honduras for nine months, interrupting his study at Harvard. He returned from Honduras to complete his degree. He graduated with a J.D degree in 1983. 

After that, he passed the Virginia bar in 1984. 

The young Kaine became a law clerk for Judge R. Lanier Anderson III after graduating from Harvard. He joined the Richmond law firm of Little, Parsley, and Cluverius, P.C. He became director of the law firm Mezzullo & McCandlish, P.C in 1987. 

Senator Tim Kaine practiced law at Richmond for 17 years and specialized in fair housing law. He also represented clients who were discriminated against on the basis of disability and race. Kane also did regular pro bono work.

He started teaching legal ethics in 1988 at the University of Richmond School of Law. He taught there for six years and his students included Virginia attorney general Mark Herring.

Kaine became interested in politics due to the influence of his wife’s family and also his experience at Richmond city council meetings. 

He became the 2nd district member of the city council by defeating incumbent Benjamin P.A. Warthen. He retained his position till September 10th, 2001. 

Kaine ran for lieutenant governor of Virginia in 2001 after senator Emily Couric dropped out due to cancer. He ran against state delegate Alan Diamonstein. Kaine won the general elections and was sworn in on January 12th, 2002 by his wife. 

In 2005, Kaine ran for governor of Virginia against Republican candidate Jerry W. Kilgore, a former attorney general. 

Sen. Kaine ran for governor of Virginia in 2005 and won by large margins in Richmond and northern Virginia’s outer suburbs. He was sworn in as governor at the colonial Capitol at Williamsburg in 2006.

He announced in 2011 that he would run for Jim Webb’s seat in the Senate. He defeated former governor and senator George Allen in the general election.

Kaine endorsed Hillary Clinton in 2016 for president and campaigned for her actions in seven states. 

Hillary Clinton in turn announced that Kaine would be her running mate in the elections. They lost the Electoral votes and also the elections. 

Senator Tim Kaine announced that he would run for the Senate reelection in 2018. He defeated Corey Stewart by more than 15 points in the elections.

Sen. Kaine received awards and honors for his accomplishments, including the Humanitarian Award, Virginia Region of the National Conference for Community and Justice. 

The Award for Public Service and the Center for the National Interest Distinguished Service Award.
