Senator Marco Antonio Rubio is an American politician and lawyer. He has served as a senior U.S. Senator from Florida under the Republicans since 2011. He was also a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 2006 to 2008, serving as a speaker. He was also a U.S. presidential nominee for the Republican in 2016.
Rubio was born in Miami, Florida, on May 28, 1971. He was born to native Cubans who migrated to the U.S. during the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship.
Senator Marco Rubio graduated from the South Miami Senior High School in 1989. Subsequently, he won a year football scholarship to Tarkio College in Missouri. Afterward, he enrolled at the Santa Fe Community College in Florida.
Rubio incurred $100,000 in student loans to aid his tertiary education. In 1993, Rubio graduated from the University of Florida with a B.A. degree in Political Science. Three years later, he earned a J.D. from the University of Miami’s School of Law.
Senator Marco Rubio started his political career during his J.D. education as an intern for Republican U.S. Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
He also worked for Senator Bob Dole’s presidential campaign in 1996. After his J.D., he was elected to the West Miami City Commission. He served only one term at the Commission.
In 1999, Rubio campaigned as a moderate for a seat at the Florida House of Representatives. He was aspiring to represent the 111th House District. He won a runoff election for the Republican nomination and won the special election with 72% of the votes.
He assumed office in 2000 and served till 2008. He became the Majority Leader from 2003 to 2006. He was also the speaker of the House from 2006 to 2008
As a Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship member, Rubio has advocated helping and supporting small businesses. He also wrote the Paycheck Protection Program.
The program helped millions of small businesses and workers during the COVID-19 crisis. He was also a key figure in maintaining national security and effective foreign policy for America.
To bring effective and affordable healthcare to the grasp of Americans, Rubio voted to replace Obamacare with a better healthcare system. He also opposed increased taxpayer debt, a bloated budget, and worked to create jobs in the state. He is also an advocate for human rights protection.
Rubio’s administration has set out one major goal; helping the U.S. citizens realize their dream. Boasting several legislative achievements, Rubio has continued to dedicate his career to serving his people.
But, Rubio was reported involved in financial misconduct. He was accused of misusing access to his party’s funds. He also got under fire for liquidating his retirement account. Yet, none of that affected his career.
According to a poll by WMUR/University in 2013, showed Rubio at the top alongside Kentucky senator Rand Paul. As Rubio took office as Speaker, Jeb Bush was completing his term as governor, and Bush left office in January 2007.
Rubio has been a part of the federal government as Senior United States Senator and surpassed the status of junior United States Senator. Jeb Bush was completing his term as governor when Rubio took office as Speaker in 2007.
