Senator Robert Menendez is an American politician and lawyer.Â
Senator Bob Menendez has served as a senior United States Senator from New Jersey since 2006. He was the chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Foreign Relations during his time at the United States Senate. He also served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1993 till 2006.

He was born to a low-class family of Cuban immigrants. But, he grew up in Union City, where he attended the Union Hill High School. He enrolled at Saint Peter’s College and earned a B.A. degree in Political Science in 1976. He furthered and earned a J.D. in Rutgers Law School in 1979.
Menendez started his political career during his Bachelor’s degree program. He was elected to the Union City Board of Education from 1974 till 1978. After his J.D., he was admitted to the New Jersey Bar and started private legal practice in 1980.Â
In 1982, Menendez ran for the Mayor of Union City but was defeated by Musto.Â
In his second bid in 1986, he defeated Musto and became the Mayor till 1993. While serving as the Mayor, Menendez was elected to represent the state’s 33rd District in the New Jersey General Assembly. He served from 1987 till 1991.
In 1992, he contested for a seat in the United States House of Representatives after redistricting. He took office the following year and served till 2006.
In 2006, after Governor Jon Corzine, a former United States Senator, was elected as the governor of New Jersey, he appointed Menendez to fill the vacant seat. He won again in 2006, 2012, and 2018.
